Four Years of ForeverSpin (A Long-Term Review)

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

ForeverSpin gifted me a Titanium Spinning top and their original stainless steel spinning base a little over four years ago (followed by one of their mystery tops around a year later). I have so much to say about them, including why I don’t use them anymore, but I would still recommend the purchase.

So why should you trust me? I have been reviewing products since 2017 and always do my best to give you the most real-world testing. I do my best to always tell you the good and the bad so you can decide if a product is worth it.

A ForeverSpin top is an ultra-high-end spinning top that aims to be a desk accessory, an educational toy, and a way to rest your mind while at work. While I have the titanium version (and a mystery top), you can choose from a range of materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, and mokume-gane copper. The company even provides (for a fee) a dock to store your complete collection when it is not in use.

How is this different from others?

ForeverSpin tops are built to be the best in the spinning top category. No expense is spared in developing the tops, and there are an incredible amount of high-quality materials throughout their collection. This also follows up with a high price tag, with the cheapest top in their collection being north of $40 and their most expensive being just shy of $300 (just for the top). This sets them apart from the other inexpensive children’s toys with which spinning tops are most associated.

What do I like about it?

1. Challenge yourself to get better

Spinning this top is surprisingly tricky and takes some time to learn. This makes it exciting every time you use it, as you can feel yourself getting better and better at it over time.

The learning curve initially caused some scratches on my spinning base when I dropped it on the surface, and it spins with a bit too much of a wobble. I recommend keeping an eye on dropping it on the glass. Also, is this an issue any longer on the newer, more excellent spinning bases?

2. Looks fantastic on your desk

While spinning the top is a lot of fun, I enjoy how it looks on my desk. It gives my desk a refined appearance and means I don’t only have “business stuff” on it, giving me a bit of peace of mind that it’s not all about work.

3. Great quality design

There is no way around it: ForeverSpin tops are incredibly high-end. Every top is well-built, balanced, and built to last forever. While the spinning top base is less long-lasting (as it gets scratched from usage), the top has seen no wear and tear.

What do I NOT Like about it?

1. After a while, it isn’t something you will likely use regularly.

I used this spinning top quite regularly when I originally wrote this review after six months of usage. However, after more than four years of ownership, it has found its way into a box and is unused at all. That said, I still recommend this spinning top for a select few people (which we’ll get into further in this article).

2. The spinning top base gets scratched.

I have talked a bit about this throughout the article but haven’t been overly impressed by the spinning top base. After a few uses, you will notice that the metal of the spinning top begins to etch into the glass itself, resulting in aesthetic issues and causing friction with the spinning top and lowering how long it can spin. That said, they have revamped the spinning base since mine, so they may have added a layer on top of the glass to resolve this, but I can only speak to what I have experienced.

3. Definitely a hefty price

There is no way around it: These spinning tops are incredibly expensive. If you want both a spinning top and the base to spin it on, you will be out at least $80 to get started. For a spinning top, this is definitely a premium product, and I think this will be a big issue for many people.

Should you buy a ForeverSpin?

I’ve let the cat out of the bag already; I don’t personally still use the ForeverSpin after four years of usage. However, I still recommend this spinning top to a couple of different people.

1. Office Workers that are Client Facing

I am a blogger and video content creator who works remotely. This means I am the only person who sees my desk. This also means that one of my favorite aspects of the spinning top (being a conversation starter) no longer really applies to me. However, if you have in-person meetings at your desk, this could be a fantastic way to start conversations and break the ice.

2. People who keep a clean desk

I don’t keep my desk clean. Like ever. There is plenty of gear I’ve been testing (I can see four or more wallets on my desk right now that I’ve been testing), coffee mugs, legos, and more sprinkled throughout my workspace. This results in my ForeverSpin getting lost in a mess and means I don’t enjoy it nearly as much as someone who keeps a clean and tidy workspace. So, if you do not sound like me, this could be an excellent option for you.

3. Those looking for a unique, thoughtful gift

The final person who should consider purchasing a ForeverSpin is if you are giving it as a gift. This is an incredibly unique gift that just shines with thoughtfulness. If you have someone in your life with a desk job and you hope to make an impact, this is it. While they may not use it forever, it is a gift that lasts forever, even if it’s in a drawer somewhere. Even though I no longer use mine, I still enjoy knowing I have it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do ForeverSpin tops spin?

These spinning tops will spin at different rates depending on your experience turning them. The rate will also differ based on the material of the ForeverSpin you buy. The heavier it is, the longer it should spin.  That said, mine can spin for around 2 minutes, which is respectful. I find I forget about it until it falls over and startles me.

Do ForeverSpin tops spin forever?

This is an obvious question, and no, these spinning tops will not spin forever. The Forever in ForeverSpin refers more to the build quality rather than the time that the spinning top will spin.

How big are ForeverSpin tops?

Every ForeverSpin top is the same size, so you can tell the difference between the 20 materials. Specifically, the ForeverSpin tops are 1.4″ tall by 1.1″ in diameter and weigh between 9 and 60 grams. Even though the dimensions are identical, the different materials significantly differ in weight.

What are the ForeverSpin mystery tops?

If you have spent some time looking into ForeverSpin, I am sure you have encountered the mystery of ForeverSpin tops. These are unique edition versions that you can buy or require an order for a specific time. You don’t know what material it is, but it gives your collection an additional cool-looking version.
