I’ve always been a big fan of leather bi-folds, and in fact, have never owned a minimalist wallet before this one right here! However, after Groove Life offered to gift Gear43 their all-new Groove Wallet Trace (which is a trackable, 6-card capacity wallet), I was excited to check it out and put it through its paces.
As mentioned, it has built-in tracking for iOS devices that can also play a chime to help you find it if it ever falls in between the couch cushions. RFID blocking is built in and helps put any security worries to rest.

The Groove Life Trace wallet is an ejector-style front sliding aluminum card-holding wallet. It only has tracking for iOS devices, but it works very well and is super easy to set up and use with the provided instruction card. It has RFID blocking built in for peace of mind against any potential threats. The Groove Wallet Trace wallet is only available in black with a brushed finish over the front slide.
It’s a bit different from the other wallets in Groove Life’s inventory in that there is a tray that slides up, and you can insert the tracking card into the face of the wallet, meaning it doesn’t take up any of your card capacity when in use.
As for storage capacity, you can put up to six cards (unembossed) in the cardholder, and cash is held via a money clip on the back side of the wallet.
What do I like about the Groove Wallet Trace?
1. It has a fantastic card capacity.
It holds 6 cards; it keeps me from hauling around a bunch of random cards and junk. I probably don’t need to be carrying around with me all the time, but for those who do need to carry a few more cards, you will be able to use the money clip to store those extra cards. I don’t recommend this as using the money clip for cash only, as the clip may damage your cards if you keep them there.
2. The wallet is fully-trackable
You can find it! As this has “Find My” built into the body of the wallet, it makes it super easy to keep track of or find your wallet if you lose it, and if you need a little bit of extra detecting power, you can play a chime that will alert you to its precise location if you are in hearing rage that is. You can add people to track your wallet, too.
3. Much slimmer than traditional wallets
The slim design is life-changing if you’re going to the Groove Life Trace from a traditional wallet. The compact size while keeping the features up is a very appealing part of this wallet; the weight is part of that. Some minimalist wallets try to be as light as possible, but this wallet has a good weight, not too heavy and not too light.
4. Easy to set up the tracking capabilities
Groove Life makes setting up the Find My super easy; the included instruction card is very easy to follow, and if you do want to see how it’s done, they have a QR code that you can scan that will take you to the GL website with a nice video tutorial for you to watch
What do I NOT like about the Groove Wallet Trace?
1. It’s quite expensive.
The Groove Life Trace wallet is a pricey little fella… yes it has my built-in and is an all-metal construction, yes I know… but $125 for a wallet? That’s kinda expensive just to hold a maximum of 6 cards; if you are prone to losing your wallet, then maybe this wallet will work for you, or buy a $25 dollar wallet and leave a 100 dollar bill in it, and you probably won’t lose that either. All I’m saying is that it seems a little expensive just to be a cardholder.
2. I didn’t care for the money clip.
This may just be me, but the money clip is a bit too strong for my liking. I just feel like I’m going to tear apart my bills when I try to put them in. so much so that I just took the money clip off, I wasn’t using it and it was just an extra thing to get caught on stuff.
While I haven’t tested it personally, I think the optional “Go Wallet” accessory (which Austin used over in his review of the original Groove Wallet) would likely help with this quite a bit, as it offers a cash strap and additional card storage in place of the money clip that I didn’t care for.
Who should buy the Groove Wallet Trace?
This wallet would be fantastic for someone that not worried about price point, and wants a slim wallet with a trackable card that can be hidden within the wallet (Airtags are awesome, but quite obvious).
Now, me personally? I’m not sure if I would buy this wallet. It is nice, and it is awesome to not sacrifice a card slot for a tracking card, but that is about it; I’m not sold on what you are getting for the price. I do like it. It’s not awful, but the price is just a little too much for my liking.
If you need to keep track of your wallet and/or you lose it on a regular basis, then it may just be worth the money for you. Alternatively, if you are worried about the price, you might want to think about getting the original Groove Life Groove Wallet that Austin reviewed over here (which is cheaper, but lacks tracking capabilities).
