Like Ejector, Pop-Up Wallets? These 7 are THE BEST that I’ve tested!

The minimalist wallet craze has been growing a ton over the past couple of years. However, a subcategory within the minimalist wallet category has been growing just as quickly, and that is the ejector-style wallet.

This essentially is a cardholder that is able to eject anywhere from six to seven cards out the top of the wallet (fanning them out for easy access) with the push or slide of a button or plate that is generally found on either the bottom or side of the wallet.

I’ve tested quite a few of these different cardholder wallets over the years, and there are some obvious winners. So stick around, as these are the best ejector-style wallets you can find right now (that I have tested).

1. Double Oak Founder’s Edition

  • The cardholder is removable from the wallet.
  • The top-grain leather feels awesome.
  • The cardholder mechanism is reliable and clicks.
  • MagSafe compatible
  • The gold color looks fantastic.
Cons:
  • Cards can get jammed in the cardholder.
  • With the leather portion, it is quite thick
Specifications:
  • Dimensions: 4.1" High by 2.7" Wide by .75" Deep
  • RFID Blocking: Yes
  • Card Capacity: 1 to 10
  • Cash Organization: Yes

This wallet stands out as one of my all-time favorite wallets (which is why I’m so thankful they gifted it to me)! I do a fantastic job of blending the traditional leather wallet with the more modern ejector-style cardholders. The outer leather is made of top-grain leather and has its own storage compartments for cards and cash. As for the cardholder, it’s fully aluminum, with one of my favorite all-metal push-button ejectors out of any wallet. Another huge benefit is that it can handle up to seven cards within the cardholder rather than the commonly used six cards.

Now, this may already be a recipe for an awesome wallet, but the fact that the cardholder can be slid out of the wallet and becomes a MagSafe compatable wallet (which can be put on the back of your phone) is what seals the deal for me.

It’s not all amazing, though, as the major downside I saw was when the outer leather was being used, the wallet got incredibly thick (although they have a thinner version coming out soon, so we’ll see). I also ran into a place where cards would get jammed and have a hard time being released.

This wallet was the first ejector wallet I ever owned (again, thanks to Ekster for gifting it to me), and it has consistently been one of my favorites as well. While it may not have the leather outer portion of the wallet like the Double Oak above (Paid Link), its cardholder is completely made of forged carbon fiber. While it may not have a meaningful impact on the weight of the wallet, it is still an incredibly cool material to have your wallet made out of.

Just like all Ekster cardholders, you can easily eject up to six cards out the top via a push button on the bottom of the wallet, and additional cards can be held behind an expansion plate, along with cash behind the cash strap on the reverse side. I never felt like I was low on capacity with this wallet!

As for the downsides to the wallet? The carbon fiber definitely wore quickly (or at least the clear coating on it), which left the forged carbon fiber looking like fingerprints (I would recommend the 3K carbon fiber because of this). Another major downside is that its larger than other wallets (like the next wallet on this list).

3. Andar “The” Pilot

3.5
Pros:
  • The top-grain leather is incredibly nice.
  • I appreciate the quick access card slot.
  • It’s a reasonable price for the quality
  • The cash strap is one of the best yet
Cons:
  • I wish it had a metal ejector button and mechanism
  • An additional card in its capacity would be awesome

If you are looking for a high-quality, full-grain leather-wrapped cardholder, this is the one to get! While the cardholder may not be removable like the Double Oak, it is considerably more compact than that alternative. It’s quick access slot is extremely usable, its reasonably priced, and I was super impressed with its cash strap.

The major downsides I saw with this wallet were that its capacity was limited to seven or eight cards (six of which are in the cardholder) and the fact that the ejector mechanism and button are both made of plastic.

This is the perfect wallet for the professional who wants that full-grain leather look but still wants something a little more compact.

You of course can read my complete review of this wallet here!

As I said in my full review (right here), this wallet is going to continue to go down as my all-time favorite wallet that I just don’t use.

Now, the major upside to the wallet is its build quality; it is up there with the best of the best. The internal mechanism is relatively simple and is activated by pushing upward on the exterior plate (no buttons here), once activated it gives an extremely satisfying click (it is borderline a fidget toy). Due to how they positioned the mechanism into the plate (which bought them space) results in this wallet being one of the more compact units on this list.

As for downsides (and the reason I don’t use it)? While the wallet (if equipped with it as an additional accessory) has a leather attachment that includes both a cash strap and a quick card access slot, I found it difficult to get cards out of the slot. This also brought more light to the fact that this wallet has a relatively low card capacity, and because I carry a significant number of cards, it sits unused in my collection.

That said, if you don’t carry many cards (less than 6 or 7), this is an amazing wallet (Paid Link) and is totally recommended.

5. Groove Life Groove Wallet Trace

  • It has a fantastic card capacity.

Cons:
  • It's quite expensive.
  • I didn't care for the money clip.

Built on the success of the original Groove Wallet, the brand just released an updated version of the wallet, which included a hidden compartment for a proprietary tracker card from the company. Adam tested the wallet out over here for quite a while, and while he came away impressed with the wallet (he called it the Ferrari of wallets in a conversation), he wasn’t quite sure it was worth the price.

He very much enjoyed the fact that it had a six-card capacity, which was more than enough for him, that it was trackable (and easy to set up), and how slim it was (he removed the money clip after testing for a while, making it thinner than stock.

His major drawbacks on the wallet came down to the fact the money clip didn’t work well for him (which is why he removed it), as it held onto money too tightly, and it was just too expensive.

This wallet is perfect for someone who doesn’t need more than six cards on their person and is willing to shell out a bit more money to get a wallet that is trackable (with a card that is concealed and doesn’t take up card capacity).

This is the wallet that started the Ekster revolution! This is a fully-aluminum-bodied version of the carbon fiber Ekster earlier on this list. It allows you to carry up to six cards in the cardholder portion (that are fanned out in front of you), and you can carry additional cash and cards on the exterior of the wallet.

All of the same upsides exist, including a large card capacity and ease of use. It even has quite a few different color varieties to choose from!

However, this one is farther down the list of ejector wallets, primarily because the aluminum body is painted whatever color you want. This paint quickly starts to show wear and tear in a short period (a couple of weeks), with nicks and scratches being quite evident against the silver aluminum. That said, it’s only aesthetic, and I have had no quality issues with usability.

7. Ekster Wallet (Previously Parliament)

Cons:
  • This minimalist wallet is THICK!
  • The cardholder is a plastic.
  • Capacity is sacrificed for leather.

  • RFID Blocking: Yes
  • Card Capacity: 1-9 cards
  • Cash Organization: Strap & Pocket

Now, I am fully aware that there are plenty of Ekster wallets on this list, but to be fair, they kinda specialize in ejector wallets. However, the lowest on their offering (for me anyway) is their Ekster Wallet. It maintains the same cardholder functionality, including the six-card capacity. However, instead of an expansion plate and a cash strap, it has a leather outer portion (kinda like the Double Oak above) that has additional card storage and cash storage.

While I have their standard version (there is a premium version), I found this wallet to be a bit lacking; the leather is lower quality, the cardholder is made of plastic (which doesn’t affect functionality), and if you put anything in the leather portion, it doesn’t want to close all the way.

Now, it does a great job for what it is, but it is definitely not my favorite one on this list by any means! I would just get one of the cardholder wallets from Ekster or think about the Double Oak (which is similarly priced but does it better).
