The TEREN Lightweight Traveler Pants: I wore them for 2 weeks straight!

I want to find the perfect traveler’s pants. Are you looking for a great pair of travel pants? So am I… well, I’m always looking for not good but great travel pants. Why? For me, “good” is not “good enough.” Because it’s only a matter of time–if you keep searching– before you find a great piece of gear.

You’ll know when it’s great because you feel it’s okay to stop looking. Are the lightweight traveler pants from Teren those pants? Maybe. Maybe not. Teren gave me these pants. Their ads kept popping up on YouTube, and while the ads are funny, I wondered if the product would live up to what they claim.

So, I’m thankful they gifted us a pair here at Gear43 to test. I now have lived in this one pair of pants for two weeks straight and have only hand-washed them once. I am going to give my honest feedback on what I like and what I don’t like and then who these pants are for (in my opinion).

What are the Teren Lightweight Traveler Pants?

The Lightweight Traveler Pants by TEREN are, as the name implies, made of a lightweight material. They currently come in seven different colors. The material is made of 88% Nylon and 12% spandex. The material is treated with an EPA-certified insect repellent. As far as the construction goes, it comes with a gusseted seat (heaven on earth) and a 4-way stretch fabric.

The material is moisture-wicking and quick-drying and has an antimicrobial treatment that will reduce odor. When you wear them 14 days straight like me (for testing purposes) and want them odor-free this is an important feature. It has built-in UV protection.

There are three regular pockets and three hidden pockets for all your essentials. The pant utilizes high-strength magnets for the waistband closure but also has a hidden internal drawstring and YKK zippers. So, all in all, these pants come loaded with features. After two weeks of constant wear and only one washing let me tell you what I like about them. It all starts with the “sniff test”.

So, what do I like about these pants?

1. These pants smell great, even after two weeks!

What a clean smell! Once a year, I’m in Africa for two or three weeks. One year, I returned to my amazing family, who, after picking me up at the airport, sat on the other side of the restaurant table.

Apparently, I smelled quite bad. I had gotten used to my smell, so I didn’t realize how bad it actually was. Since then, I’ve been on a quest to find great pants. When it comes to the smell test,  these are those pants (Paid Link).

Because I handed my pants to my wife after two weeks of wearing them (didn’t tell her that), who cautiously smelled them and said, “They smell clean.” There is nothing more to say on this topic.

2. These pants are forgettable, in a good way.

Between the four-way stretch, gusseted seat, and odor resistance, I found that after days of wearing them out in the woods, in my office, or at dinner for my birthday, they were comfortable. I accidentally got a size that was too small, but they still fit well.

Most Chino-style pants I’ve tried have to be the exact right size because if they aren’t, you’ll be adjusting them and feeling uncomfortable in them the whole time. Not with these. I found that I could put them on in the morning and would not think about them all day, well, with one exemption, but we will talk about that later.

3. I liked, no loved, the hidden side points!

There are two zippered pockets just behind the front pockets, and I have to say, they are nearly perfect. I can’t stand bulky pockets. I also can’t stand seeing men walking around with both front pockets loaded to the max with wallets and who knows what else.

It makes a grown man look like a child who has no concept of how they appear to others. I carry a minimalist wallet in my front pocket, and sometimes, I need to put my phone in one as well. Here is what I found: You can do that while maintaining a clean aesthetic with these pants! The rest of the features are nice, but those are really my top three things (Paid Link); now let’s see what I don’t like.

What do I not like about these travel pants?

1. Magnetic closure has its own problems.

I have a love/hate relationship with the magnetic closure! Where normally there would be a button, there is a magnet instead. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool idea, and I would vote to keep it. But I’d like a secondary option for closure.

Like a lot of people, I can fluctuate 10 lbs in weight within a few months, and that could mean the difference between whether the pants will always be opening or staying closed. The idea is that when you’re sitting on a bus or plane, the pants will open (slightly) to alleviate pressure and close when you stand.

But unless you are just the right size, they end up open all the time, which is why you are forced to wear a belt. Again, I’ll admit that I had the wrong size, but I normally have between a 36″ or a 34″ waist throughout the year. So this was a bit of a problem.

2. It’s a bit noisier than it should be

Walking around in an office setting, I was aware of how much noise the material made. While the material felt great and moved right, it was a bit loud.

Like a kid with snow pants on, I was aware of how much noise there was while walking. I only heard it while I was in quiet environments, and when outside or walking downtown, it really wasn’t noticeable. So, just know that if you’re in a lot of meetings, there may be some extra noise.

Who should buy these travel pants?

Well, if you want to have a pair of pants that can withstand your travel smells, then yes! Order them today. If my wife thinks they smell great after two weeks of wearing them with only one hand washing and hanging them to dry (required,) then so will yours!

You can dirty these pants up, throw them in a sink with a little soap, or hang them anywhere, and they’ll dry quickly so you can throw them back on with confidence, knowing that you smell great! Well, at least your pants will.

These pants are not for you if you fluctuate in weight a lot like I do. Just being honest.  Unless you can afford to buy a pair in two different sizes you may want to try another pant. You can wear a belt and that will help but when I travel I don’t like belts, at least for the airport because you have to take it off to go through TSA screening. So, just know you’ll need two pairs of them or to wear a belt.

Overall, these are some of the best travel pants I have ever worn. They are not perfect, but they are a great pair of pants, and that’s what I am always looking for.
