The Nomad Goods Titanium Pen Isn’t For Me

I can safely say I have used my fair share of pens; that being said, this pen is probably the most expensive pen I have ever used, and it is also one of the best looking.

But those aspects don’t necessarily make a product work well, and that is where this pen from nomad falls short, it looks great and is made of some super cool materials, but it rattles and is gritty when you click the extension button and when spending that kind of money I would like to have a product that is high quality not just made of high-quality metal.

The nomad titanium pen is a sleek and minimalist pen made out of, well, you guessed it… titanium. It features interchangeable ink and one option for a mechanical pencil; this is sure to make an impression. It weighs in at 32 grams and features a clipless design and flat sides to help with comfort and, hopefully, for rolling around. Of course, if you don’t need Titanium, you can also opt for their Aluminum and steel-bodied version, but this review is specific to Titanium.

What do I like about the Nomad Titanium Pen?

1. The design.

It looks like Captain Kirk would have used this by jotting down a quick note or writing down an important message in the mission log on the starship enterprise. Not a pen that would be part of your EDC. And that is why the design is so awesome.

It looks like you may be asking what makes a pen minimalistic; it’s a pen. How much more minimalist can you get?

Well, you strip the pocket clip off and give it some nice flat sides (Paid Link). And you are left with a pen that rolls around on tables and slides deep into your pocket. But more on that later. But it looks oh so sleek. You can’t get around that, and while it may be a downside that we’ll talk about later, it also is a big upside as well!

2. It has interchangeable inserts

One of the coolest parts of this pen is the ability to change the ink cartridge, now this is not a new thing in the pen world but having an insert to turn your pen into a mechanical pencil is super handy if you like using a pencil instead of a pen.

Making your investment in this more then just one pen, it can be a pencil too! While I personally wasn’t able to test that out, its a big deal!

3. The material

TITANIUM! We were all thinking it, the space age material that was once used only for spaceships and fighter jets is now being used to take a humble note or sign a contract. Not that using an extremely light and incredibly strong material to make pens out of is a bad thing in my opinion.

The fact that this material was only used for some of the coolest things ever made is the same fact that makes this pen so special; it’s Titanium!

What do I NOT like about the Nomad Goods Titanium Pen?

1. It’s minimal design is too minimal

The design is a super great aspect of the pen, it also leaves out one of the most underrated features of a pen like a pocket clip are more than just a pocket clip.

It keeps it from rolling. And that is something that the nomad titanium pen does very well, it rolls off most uneven surfaces very well, it seems to roll off and or around at the most undesirable times too.

2. Writing experience leaves a bit to be desired

As for the way this pen feels when you use it… well, it leaves a lot to be desired. I have gotten a far better feel from some 6-10 dollar pens that you can get from a big box store.

It just feels like the tip of the pen moves around as you write, and that is not what I want with my super high-end pen… Now, that being said, I don’t know if the writing experience gets better when you change the ink insert or not, so take that into consideration.

3. The high price point is an issue

Yeah, it’s a titanium pen, I get it, but it’s to say that $100 for a pen is a little on the steep side; you can get some very nice pens (some that write way better as well) for way less.

And if I am buying a pen just because it is made of some crazy material I can find other pens that are made of cool materials and may even be cheaper as well.

Who should buy this pen?

If you are a person who signs important documents in person, and you want to make your coworkers and or opposing contract signers have a deep feeling of pen envy, then you, my good sir, are looking at one of the best ways to do so. And you can flaunt that you have a pen made of the trendiest cool materials of the 20th century. And if you want to have a pen that can transform into a mechanical pencil, that is a bonus.

Where should you buy this Titanium pen?
