I had never given rings much of a thought until recently! It’s generally expected that you wear a single metal-based wedding band, and that is that. However, in recent years, plenty of brands have been popping up that are starting to offer silicone rings. Some are quite expensive, some are incredibly cheap, and some are right in the middle (that’s where this QALO ring sits).
Earlier this year, I purchased this QALO Classic Silicone Ring from Walmart. While I wasn’t super impressed with it initially, it has grown on me, and for the price, it’s likely one of the most reasonable starter silicone rings you can buy today.
So, in this article, I’m going to go over everything I do like about it, what I don’t like about it, and exactly who it is for, so stay tuned!

What is the QALO ring?

- I worry less when wearing this ring.
- It's very reasonably priced.
- Allows my fingers to move more freely.
- I wish it was a thinner ring
- It doesn't have any grooves on the inside
- It's a bit gummy
The ring I’ve tested out here is a size 11 ring, in the Sage Green color. Unlike most rings you are used to, its made strictly out of a silicone material, allowing for it to flex and stretch with your movements. These QALO rings come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, however mine is the classic version.
The primary reason why silicone rings exist, outside of being lightweight, is that they are considerably more ideal for people who are active or work in places where a more solid ring is less than ideal (for example, a mechanic). Using a solid metal ring in situations like this, or even the gym, can result in quite a bit of damage that I’m not going to get into here.
A Quick Note: I am reviewing this ring after testing it for quite some time, and I am wearing it now as I write this. I did want to note that when I first purchased this ring, it had some extra silicone left over from being manufactured, but that quickly rubbed off. I also found that the ring hurt my finger for a bit while the hair on my hands got used to being moved around by the silicone.
What do I like about this silicone ring?
1. I worry less when wearing this ring.
I admit it: the stories of what happens when you get into bad situations with a metal ring have gotten to me. Because of that, silicone rings like this one here put me considerably more at ease when I wear them. If something catches the ring, it rips. If something pushes up against it, it just forms with it. There really isn’t anything that can be done to the ring that will cause any issues for me, in contrast to solid rings.
It’s just nice to know that if anything happened, I wouldn’t have to worry about what my ring could be doing to me when an issue might arise.
2. It’s very reasonably priced.
There aren’t many things like wallets, rings, or other items of the like that can be considered cheap; however, this seems to be the one exception. While these rings likely cost QALO pennies to create individually, the $11 price point I paid (prices vary) is a small price to pay (quite literally) for what it is.
One of my favorite categories of products is something that you use every day because a single purchase can change your day, every single day. This ring here? If you wear it, it will change your day, every day. At $11, thats an impressive feat.
3. Allows my fingers to move more freely.
Once you put a normal ring on your finger, it becomes normalized. You likely don’t notice it throughout your day; however, even if you may not notice it, it is changing how you hold your hand. Whether it be the fact you can’t scrunch your pinky and middle finger together all the way, or if you are unknowingly trying to keep your ring from being damaged, it changes how you use your left hand.
Switching over to a silicone ring on my left hand made my hand feel so much more agile. I could easily scrunch my fingers together, I don’t worry about my ring when doing dishes, and I don’t worry about hurting my fingers when I work on cars.
What do I not like about my QALO ring?
1. I wish it was a thinner ring
It wasn’t until I tested out Ridge’s Carbon Fiber Ring Set that they had gifted me that I realized how much I liked thinner rings. While this silicone QALO ring is obviously pliable, which helps with its ease of wearing, having a thinner band has quickly become my preference. I’ve spent most of my life using 8mm or 10mm rings on my fingers, and I’ve not found that 6mm width is now my favorite.
The thinner bands are considerably less noticeable on a day-to-day basis, and I have found them to be much more comfortable in the long run. Because of that, I wish this one right here followed suit.
2. It doesn’t have any grooves on the inside
While brands like Groove Life and Ridge give their rings groove in it (yes, that is where Groove Life gets its namesake), this QALO doesn’t feature that. The grooves in the rings move water and sweat away from the center of the ring and channel it out to the outer portion of the ring, where it is able to dissipate on its own.
Unfortunately, this QALO ring doesn’t have that feature, which means I have to thoroughly dry my finger under the ring every time I wash my hands to make sure it doesn’t irritate my skin. I never realized how much I enjoyed that feature.
3. It’s a bit gummy
In comparison to the other silicone ring that I have, the QALO is a bit more gummy. While this doesn’t matter for comfort, I have found that the ring likes to catch clothing when it hits it. It’s not sticky by any means, but it does drag clothing around when it brushes up next to it.
I definitely prefer the more slick silicone feeling some of the competitors to this ring offer (even if they are more expensive).
Who is this ring for?
If you are interested in getting a silicone ring and just want to try it out, THIS is the one to get. It’s high quality enough to be a permanent solution if you enjoy it, but it’s not so expensive that you have buyer’s remorse if you find that you don’t enjoy silicone rings, as it isn’t for everyone.
Now, if you are a seasoned silicone ring user looking to expand your collection of rings, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. This is an extremely basic option, and there are definitely nicer, higher-quality, and more feature-rich options out there than this one.
