This is one of the most exciting keyboards I’ve ever used. The Keychron Q6 HE wireless custom keyboard contains features and software settings that, I’ll be honest, I’ll never come close to using. I’m not a gamer, so this keyboard is for daily production. My average work week has me typing away 40 hours a week, so having a full-size keyboard that works, feels, looks good, and adds to productivity is essential.
My keyboard daily drivers are products like low-budget Logitech, mid-level Alienware, and Apple. This is my first experience with Keychron. I was gifted the Q6 HE from them, and I’ve been testing it for a couple weeks, as well as letting other members of Gear43 try it out. I’m gonna give you my honest thoughts and opinions, what I like and don’t like, but first let’s take a look at what this product offers.

- Three Connection Options.
- Quality South-facing RGB LED Lights.
- Difficult to pack around.
The Q6 HE is a full-size, 100% wireless mechanical keyboard built for gaming and productivity. It has an impressive 6063 aluminum body and a premium typing experience. It has dynamic, rapid triggers that activate and deactivate based on travel distance rather than a fixed point. It has multiple actions per keystroke that allow you to program up to four actions based on the depth of your press.
You can switch to analog mode for more nuanced control while gaming. It has three connectivity options: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.2, and wired USB Type-C.
The Q6 HE comes with fully customizable key mapping and macros. It has two gaskets (silicone pads) between the top and bottom, improving typing experience and sound quality. OSA profile double-shot PBT keycaps and south-facing RGB LED lights. The battery can work up to 100 hours if the backlight is off.
What do I like about the Keychron Q6 HE?
1. Enhanced Typing Experience.

By far the typing experience is my favorite thing. Let’s start with the sound. The double gaskets on the top and bottom case, along with the acoustic foam, make a quality “thocky” typing sound. Some keyboards are extremely irritable in the sound that they make but even after a long day of typing I still enjoyed the quality of the acoustics and the tactile keycaps.
2. Keycap design improves typing accuracy.

The unique SA-style double-shot PBT keycaps are incredible, and I can’t believe I haven’t used them until now. Not everybody likes SA-style keycaps, but my typing accuracy has improved.
They are unique and do not have uniform keycaps, so the typing feel from the bottom to the top of the keyboard is very nice. You can most certainly feel the improved stabilizers. I am a big fan of the PBT keycap materials because of the almost matte finish that does not polish over time but maintains a nice, clean aesthetic.
3. Mac or Windows users will be happy.

Being a Mac user, I definitely love that both the software and the keycaps have options for both Mac and Windows users. Both sets of keys are sent when you purchase the keyboard. and using the software was simple to set up, easy to understand, and only took a few minutes.
4. Three Connection Options.
I like having three different ways to connect to the keyboard. Sometimes you need more options this one has Bluetooth 2.4 GHz and a wired option. I often take my keyboard from the office into the field or home and having a variety of connection options is incredible. One last note, if RGB is turned off, you can get up to 100 hours of use so charging it from time to time is not a problem.
5. Quality South-facing RGB LED Lights.

Who doesn’t love a good light show? Using the Keychron Keyboard software to set the lights was simple and enjoyable. The south-facing RGB are not so in your face that they are distracting according to Keychron if you swap out the SA-style key caps for Cherry-style you still will not have any interference. In level room lighting, the lights are easily dimmable making it comfortable on your eyes, even going from bright lights to a dark room.
What do I not like about the keyboard?
1. Difficult to pack around.
Being 4.13 lbs, it’s not a keyboard that is going to do well if you’re moving it from one place to another often. I love the solid construction that comes with heavier materials like aluminum so it’s a trade-off. I don’t mind having a lightweight budget keyboard to keep in my laptop backpack in case I need to work from different locations.
Who is this keyboard for?

1. Anyone who spends a lot of time on a keyboard.
I was keyboard is for anyone ready for a better all-around relationship with their keyboard. From the incredible programmable functions to the sound and comfort of the PBT keycaps. Not having ever used a keyboard with this much quality built-in before I definitely would recommend it to anyone who spends a lot of time on a keyboard. If that’s you I recommend at least finding someone who has one and giving it a try for a day.
2. Gamers.
It’s for anyone who wants to increase their gaming performance. Now I realize there are arguments back and forth as to whether or not Hall Effect keyboards make you a better player. I’ll leave that to other people to decide; however, with the programmable features provided, you can certainly customize the playing experience, as each key can hold up to four settings.
Who is the Keychron Q6 HE not for?
The budget shopper. This is not a budget keyboard, so if you’re looking for a low-budget, high-quality keyboard, there are other options out there. It’s quite possible that given that I didn’t know what I was missing in the past, I may never have spent this much money on a keyboard. This one was gifted to me. Thank you, Keychron. However, I’m also not very happy about that because it’s kicked me up into a new keyboard bracket… now I’m not sure how I could ever go back.
