The KeyChron K3 Max is a great do everything keyboard and I have been enjoying my time with it. The fully customizable layout makes setting any macros or media keys super easy. This is my first low profile mechanical keyboard I have used, I have used many low profile keyboards but they are definitely not the K3 Max! Thankfully, KeyChron was kind enough to give us this unit to check out, and I am so glad they did!
After testing this low-profile keyboard out for a while, its time to share what I like, I don’t like about it, and exactly who it is for! So stay tuned for that and more.

What is the KeyChron K3 Max?

- This keyboard has the right amount of low profile.
- Switches that are not a fraction of an inch to actuate
- It’s easy to program and tweak to your taste.
- It’s battery life isn’t great.
- Pressing the wrong key happens more often than it should.
The KeyChron K3 is a wireless low profile mechanical keyboard. It is a feature-rich programmable keyboard featuring hot-swap switches, RGB lighting, and 3 fully customizable layers for any work or play needs; this keyboard comes with the option for liner, tactile, or clicky keys from the factory. You can swap from Mac/iOS to Windows with the flick of a switch (Paid Link)!
Mechanical keyboards are typically taller and more “robust,” we can say, than a traditional keyboard; this is, for some, a drawback, but that is where the KeyChron K3 Max comes in, a low profile, fully mechanical keyboard that can connect to up to 5 separate devise “theoretically” 3 over Bluetooth one via the supplied USB-C cable and one over the wireless USB-A plugged into a device.
With so many different connections, you may want to have separate key layers so your gaming key layer is set up and your normal work settings remain the same.
What do I like about the KeyChron K3 Max?
1. This keyboard has the right amount of low profile.
The low profile of this keyboard is so nice for travel, and just not having a taller keyboard that you may need a wrist rest to make comfortable, this keyboard’s small package keeps the weight to a nice level not so light that it will move around your desk but not too heavy to make it a pain to take along with you, as well as the 10 keyless layout is a pulse for this keyboard.
2. Switches that are not a fraction of an inch to actuate
Typically, with a low-profile keyboard, the switches are actuated or depressed by only a small amount, and it will trigger the keystroke; these switches have a nice balance of travel to keep you feeling like you are typing on a membrane keyboard (what you would find on most laptops) and it is far from the long travel of a traditional mechanical keyboard.
3. It’s easy to program and tweak to your taste.
Some keyboards don’t have great software to support customizing layers and or changing any setting that you may want to; KeyChron has a great interface for making small tweaks and major changes. This keyboard does support up to 3 layers, and you can have a setup for gaming or video editing and anything in between.
What do I NOT like about this mechanical keyboard?
1. It’s battery life isn’t great.
Battery life is not the K3 Max’s best trait I have had other wireless keyboards that last last at least two weeks off a single charge or of two AAA batteries; that is a long time, the K3 Max on the other hand will last about 5-6 days before it gets low enough to warrant a charge. The battery will charge rather fast, so that is some positive to the not-so-great battery life.
2. Pressing the wrong key happens more often than it should.
It’s far to easy to press the modifier keys like shift and especiaLLY CAPS LOCK.. oh look it happened again… It would be nice to have just a little bit of gap or have the modifier keys use clicky switches so at least you would feel and hear if you depressed it unknowingly.
Who should buy this KeyChron K3 Max?
This keyboard is, in my opinion, one of the best low-profile wireless keyboards on the market! It is at a great price point (Paid Link); if you are looking for a keyboard and you want to save space or just like a lower keyboard, then the KeyChron K3 Max is the absolute winner! This is a great option if you are working gaming or just casually surfing the web. I’m sure it will meet and exceed your expectations!
